2021 Honda Passport vs. Jeep Grand Cherokee

Overview

The 2021 Honda Passport and 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee are spacious, reliable, and well-equipped mid-sized SUVs. Both vehicles share similarities, such as modern safety features and infotainment systems. In addition, they're both reasonably priced. So which one is better, the 2021 Honda Passport or the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Performance

The Honda Passport has a tough 280 horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 gasoline engine mated to a nine-speed transmission. The Grand Cherokee sports two engines: a 3.6-liter V-6 that puts out up to 295 horsepower and an optional V-8 HEMI.

Although it lacks the towing capacity that the Grand Cherokee boasts, the Passport is ready to take on any adventure. Whether it's in the mountains or by the sea, the Passport brings its athletic prowess and is ready to take charge on the road!

Fuel Economy

The Passport has two separate EPA ratings for front and all-wheel-drive models. Passports that operate with all-wheel drive can expect a fuel efficiency of up to 19 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. The front-wheel-drive models get a slightly better rating of 20 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

The Grand Cherokee also received two ratings from the EPA, one for each engine. The V-6 has an estimated fuel economy of 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. The larger and much thirstier V-8 came out at 14 mpg city and 17 mpg highway.

Interior

The interior of the Passport is an attractive design combined with useful and nicely organized controls. Its high-tech touch screen is easy to use, and its wide comfortable front seats provide the perfect driving and resting positions for driver and passenger, respectively. It seats up to five people and has at least 41 cubic feet of cargo room. Folding the rear seats unveils an additional 37 cubic feet of space.

The Grand Cherokee houses an infotainment touch screen with several large buttons. Its 7.0-inch LCD is an inch smaller than that of the Passport and is haphazardly placed amongst analog gauges. Although the Grand Cherokee's hard plastics give it a somewhat rugged feel, they don't do much for its overall comfortability.

Both vehicles have their pros and cons, but one stands out as the better option when all is considered. The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee may be bigger, but the 2021 Honda Passport is cleaner, more agile, and has a more comfortable interior. In the end, the cheaper and more day-to-day-centric 2021 Honda Passport comes out ahead.
