2021 Honda Odyssey vs. Chrysler Pacifica

Overview

The 2021 Honda Odyssey and the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica are two of the most reliable models on the market today. Each is thoughtfully designed, comfortable, and a perfect family vehicle. Both have earned an Editor's Choice award based on their day-to-day practicality and are reasonably priced. Read on as we compare the 2021 Honda Odyssey and the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica.

Performance

The Odyssey has a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that produces 280 horsepower, while the Pacifica sports a 287-horsepower 3.6-liter V-6 engine.

The Odyssey's 10-speed automatic transmission is much smoother than the Pacifica's 9-speed transmission. The Pacifica offers a hybrid option that uses a 3.6-liter V-6 and two 16-kWh lithium-ion batteries.

Overall the Odyssey's powertrain is smooth and effective without compromise. The Odyssey changes direction easily and feels like a more nimble two-row vehicle when behind the wheel. The Pacifica's heavier feel doesn't stack up when driving down narrow roads. Regardless of road condition, the Odyssey continues to be a comfortable ride with few complaints from passengers.

Fuel Economy

The 2021 Honda Odyssey has an EPA estimated fuel economy rating of 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway; although, it beats its own estimates in most real-world tests, getting upwards of 30 mpg highway. The Pacifica has the same EPA estimate of 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.

According to the EPA, the hybrid Pacifica can travel up to 33 miles without using gasoline. The two gasoline-powered minivans are comparable in fuel economy, but Chrysler's hybrid option gives it the edge in this category.

Interior

Getting people and cargo from point A to point B is a minivan's main objective, and the 2021 Honda Odyssey does that in style. Its two rear rows have more legroom than any other vehicle in its class and are much more comfortable than the Pacifica's. The incredible Magic Slide seats in the second row not only slide back and forth but also side to side, giving back-seat passengers much-needed flexibility.

Though the Pacifica has a bigger engine, the Odyssey blows it out of the water with its modern conveniences, safety features and comfort. The Odyssey's smooth, agile driving, roomy interior, and overall lower price make up for its very minor differences in performance.
