2021 Honda CR-V vs. 2021 Nissan Rogue

Overview

Many families turn to compact SUVs for improved fuel economy and affordability. Two of the most popular vehicles in this segment are the Honda CR-V and the Nissan Rogue. Keep reading to learn how the 2021 models of these two vehicles compare so that you can choose the best ride for your family.

Engine

The 2021 Honda CR-V is available with either a gas or hybrid powertrain. The gas option is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque. It is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), and front-wheel drive is standard. The hybrid powertrain comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, two electric motors, and standard all-wheel drive. This option generates 212 horsepower.

The 2021 Nissan Rogue offers a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an output of 181 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. As with the CR-V, front-wheel drive is standard. Reviewers have noted that the CR-V accelerates more quickly and quietly than the Rogue.

Interior Space

Both vehicles have comfortable interiors with plenty of standard and available features, but the interior of the 2021 CR-V is the roomiest in its segment. While the Rogue offers only 36.5 cubic feet behind its second row, the CR-V boasts 39.2 cubic feet. With the second row folded down, those numbers increase to 74.1 cubic feet and 75.8 cubic feet, respectively. The CR-V also offers more legroom for those in the rear seat, at 40.4 inches compared to the Rogue's 36.8 inches.

Safety

The standard safety features included on both the CR-V and the Rogue won't disappoint. All CR-Vs come with the Honda Sensing suite of driving assistance features. Even the base model has automatic high-beam control, adaptive cruise control that works even in stop-and-go traffic, lane-departure warning, forward collision warning, a collision-mitigation braking system, a road departure mitigation system, and a multi-angle rearview camera with guidelines. Thanks to these and other safety features, the 2021 CR-V earned a five-star crash rating from the NHTSA and was named a 2020 Top Safety Pick by IIHS.

The 2021 Rogue offers a few additional standard features, such as blind-spot monitoring, a rear door alert, automatic rear braking, and pedestrian detection. However, adaptive cruise control is not standard on the Rogue, and it received only a four-star crash rating from the NHTSA.

If you are looking for a compact SUV that achieves the ideal combination of engine performance, safety, and comfort, the 2021 CR-V edges out the competition.
